Most people think that a business can’t start with zero capital and for most aspiring entrepreneurs, getting hold of the much-needed capital is usually the biggest challenge. With new tech advancements, there are now various ways for us to start a business with almost no money involved. Here’s just a few:
1. Make use of the Internet
If you already have an existing internet connection in your house you can actually work from home. If you don’t and can’t afford a steady connection yet look for local cafés that offer free Wi-Fi.
Or if you have a spare room you can lease it out on Airbnb or Bookings.com.
Have good baking skills? You can sell your goodies online and even start making cakes for any kind of celebration.
2. Join community websites
Look for FREE websites where people can buy and sell second-hand items and make use of the freebie section of listing sites such as Indeed, Gumtree, and Facebook Marketplace.
3. Don’t quit your job… yet
Most people who choose to be in business are actually dodging the 9-5 hustle. If you’re thinking about quitting your current job because you’re planning to start up a business, just hold that thought for now. You’re still going to need money for capital and sustenance. Only give up your day job once your venture is able to pay you a wage or better yet, if it can already sustain the lifestyle that you’re currently in. If your business doesn't work out, at least you still have your job. For now, start your business in your spare time.
4. Promote your business online
Make the most of the free technology and tools to promote your business. Build a website for free using an online website builder (Wix, Wordpress.org, Tumblr, etc). There are also paid platforms that offer more flexibility and will allow you a 14 – 30 day free trial. If that’s a little complex for you you can join Linkedin, sign up to Twitter or create a Facebook page. It’s easy and an amazing way to promote your business too!
5. Start a business that uses the skills you already have
If you possess a skill that other people don’t have or need to invest time learning for themselves, then that puts you at a big advantage then. Do you have a hobby you could turn into a business? Can you paint, make clothes, create a web app or speak different languages? Know the skills that you can do and enhance it.
So, there you go! We hope that this will help you get started on the business that you are planning for a very long time. Remember that success in business is not about starting with lots of money. It’s about your determination to put the effort in and give it your best shot. Good luck!
